The Germans remain keen fans of Paddy’s work. I don’t know if that is because he travelled through their land, or because of his fame from the Kreipe kidnap, or perhaps because they just appreciate good writing.
For those who speak German here is the German writer Wolfgang Büscher talking about Paddy and his work.
“He mentions the decision of PLF to change his life by taking the tour of Europe at barely 19 after having quitted (“flo”wn” out of) school, the fact that he wrote the two volumes forty years later from memory (having lost all notes from that time). One of the most wonderful books he knows. First volume “A time of gifts” is reporting Germany and Austria, second volume Hungary and Romania.”
