Gerolimenas by Katyuli Lloyd (Source: Oldie magazine Aug 2017)
Some readers have advised me that there is an article in this month’s Oldie magazine by Katyuli Lloyd about her meeting with Paddy, and her work on the illustrations for Folio editions of Mani and Roumeli.
An example of her work is above and I’m pretty sure that’s Gerolimenas on the Mani, a place where I stayed on holiday last year.
You can access the article here online by subscription or if in the UK you ocan probably buy the magazine from your local newsagent.
A good article and fascinating to hear about recent experiences of the Mani – I’ve not managed to get there since 2014, which is a great source of frustration. I have the Folio edition – a delight with new photographs and Katyuli Lloyd’s illustrations. Her view of Yerolimenas is not as I remember it, but she has explored higher up behind the village than I did – I was too busy enjoying the grey mullet sitting overlooking the sea!

Agree, it looks just as Gerolimenas. This spring my wife and I visited the small village. We had one of those inspiring days in Gerolimenas with a long walk through its mountainous surroundings. According to a placard on one of the hotels, “Mani” had been written at Gerolimenas (Possibly true, I don’t know). I suppose the nearby villages with the typical tower houses were more lively in the 1950s, in a way Mani seems to be more remote today than 60 years ago. I would really like to buy a replica of the illustration, it is lovely.
Folio editions of Mani and Roumeli…. NOW you’ve caught my attention! Best wishes and thanks for your wonderful blog from a fan in New York.
Thank you Florence! I wish I had more time
