The auction house Christies will present the principal contents of Mill Farm, Dumbleton for auction at their sale rooms at 85 Old Brompton Road London, Greater London SW7 3LD, on Tuesday 15 May 2012.
The collection includes furniture, books, silverware, and many works of art. How many of these were collected by Joan and Paddy, and which came from their families is difficult to assess.
You can view the e-catalogue here.
Remember that you don’t have to be present to buy but can bid on-line as described in the catalogue. I hope that some of you have the opportunity to make a purchase.
Can’t seem to open the link, is there any other way to see this catalogue. Thanks.
You may need Flash player and it is most likely that the link to Christies won’t work after all this time. Sorry
Yes the link no longer works. You can find the lot here however: https://www.christies.com/salelanding/index.aspx?lid=1&dt=150520180355&saletitle=&intsaleid=15465&pg=3&action=paging&sid=9ff0cda7-cd58-44fc-94dd-b35acfd60c84
Damn. I was in London yesterday and had thought about going along and perhaps picking up a true Paddy memento from the collection but forgot. That I did forget is being rubbed in by an ad for improving one’s brain and memory below your post about the auction! Is mind reading another of your talents Tom? Thankfully I was given, by Rita his housekeeper, a couple of champaign bottles from the lunch a few of us had with him so, in addition to the books he signed for me, I do have a couple of personal and tangible mementos albeit they are not traditional pieces of art.
Looks like an awful lot of old money here (the Eyres Monsells were the local lairds). I suspect PLF himself brought little to the party.
But left a vast amount from his life.
Splendid items. But why do I have a deep feeling of sadness?
Totally agree. Things such as this should not be lost.
